MC cable is used for protection and weather proofing, installed in CDT solar panels 40 Watt or larger.
When solar panels are connected in series, voltage increase and can cause a shock under load. The latching connector is water resistant and prevents shock.
The cable is also weather resistant and will not deteriorate under the sun.
MC cable can be use as an extension cable between 2 panels to connect in series. Most often, it is use to connect the solar panel and the controller.
Installation guide for connection between solar panel and controller with MC cable:
If your solar panel has the MC cable with latching connectors, measure the distance to the controller or inverter, you will need a cable twice the distance.
Cut the cable in half, connect the latching connectors to the panel and wire strands to the inverter/controller. Be sure to allow some strain relief slack on both ends.
Optional: Tape the connector with electrical tape.
For distance over 30 feet, you will need to get a 30 feet extension first.
Branch connectors for parallel connection

Part#39002 $20
Type 3 non-locking male/female

#39030 30ft MC cable $ 30
#39050 50ft MC cable $ 50
There are no standards in latching connectors, but most will fit since it is a simple tube design.
For MC cables with locking connectors. There are no standard types of locking connectors so none are compatible with others.
If your solar panel has locking connectors, you will have to get a matching connector or cut it off and tape the cable manually.
A matching locking connector is hard to find and can be costly.
